From there, you’ll hike off the beaten path to discover massive, abandoned steam locomotives left behind from Maine’s historic logging era. As you explore these hidden relics, you’ll witness their sheer size up close while hearing the stories that bring them back to life. Chris will share the rich history of the logging industry, the people who worked these lands, and how these trains came to rest deep in the forest.

This is more than just a hike—it’s a journey into Maine’s past, surrounded by millions of acres of untouched wilderness.

After your hike, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic and peaceful location on the return towards Greenville, with additional educational stops along the way back to enrich your journey.

Along the way, you’ll take in the quiet beauty of the North Maine Woods before arriving at the caves, where you’ll have the opportunity to climb down inside and feel the incredible chill of ice that remains even during the hottest summer months.

If time and energy allow, the adventure can continue with a hike to Debsconeag Lake, where stunning views and peaceful surroundings offer the perfect ending to your day.

After your hike, you’ll stop at a scenic overlook to enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch, with additional scenic and educational stops along the way to enrich your experience.
